The state of New Jersey has been working over the last few years to bring more jobs to the Garden State and one of the ways in which they are doing that is by trying to make it the film hub of the east coast. Multiple studios have agreed to or have already broken ground on new studios in Jersey, and the future of the film industry on this side of the country is exciting. Jon Crowley, Executive Director of New Jersey Motion Picture and TV Commission, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the developments and the new 1888 studios.
“It’s going to be the largest studio complex in the northeast; there will be 23 stages by the time they are complete,” Crowley told host Larry Mendte. “They’re going to be breaking ground first quarter next year, because they did a big 10-year deal with Paramount.”
Crowley also mentioned the rest of the studios around the state that are transforming Jersey: “Then you combine that with Netflix which is doing 12 stages on 200 acres, and Lionsgate who just had a ceremony last week in Newark and you’re looking at another 6 stages there.”
