As the war between Israel and Iran continues, the world waits for the response by United States President Donald Trump. How involved the United States gets in that conflict means a lot for the politics of the region, but also how those in America view him as he tries to maintain his campaign promises. Rick Klein, ABC News Washington Bureau Chief, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about the promises Trump made on the campaign trail and the balancing act he has of keeping them.

“He ran on not allowing Iran to have a nuclear bomb,” Klein told host Larry Mendte. “He also ran on not getting involved in Middle Eastern wars that last forever.”

Klein believes Trump’s main focus is protecting Americans: “The biggest factor is that Donald Trump does not want to act in a way that makes a long term commitment for United States troops.”
