When asked on a podcast if his past statements on “globalized intifada” makes him uncomfortable, Democratic mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani offered a lackluster explanation backing support for equal rights. Later, when saying he has received death threats and faced pushback for his stance on the pro-Palestinian chant “from the river to the sea”, Mamdani couldn’t get through that explanation without crying. Critics say the tears were for show at best, and rather offer voters a chance to question his fortitude if elected mayor of New York. Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino appeared on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program to offer his perspective on why there’s no crying in politics when asked about your opinions.
Astorino told host Larry Mendte why Mamdani’s crocodile tears are not credible: “I think there’s a lot of reasons why you can’t vote for him; crying would be 100,” Astorino told host Larry Mendte. “Number one would be he’s a lunatic, number two, he’s crazy, number three, he’s insane- and then we can get into the policies of why we shouldn’t vote for him. Look, the guy has caught fire at the right time. You can tell Cuomo is unloading on the guy, everybody is, and that means in their internal polling this guy is moving in the right direction… I mean, look at the money Cuomo is putting in on this guy. You don’t do that if it’s not a threat; you don’t even pay attention.”
As for Mamdani’s teary explanation how he interprets “from the river to the sea”, Astorino feels it should be taken with more than a grain of salt: “That’s all B.S., he knows that. What he’s trying to do is to appease any potential Jewish voter who might vote for him… that’s what he was told to say… maybe they said, hey add a little tears and maybe we can get out of this without too much harm.”
