New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been facing a lot of backlash over his decision to allow ICE to operate an office on Rikers Island. Adams, who is facing media scrutiny as well as a lawsuit from his own City Council over the executive order he signed, tried to deflect some of the blame during a press conference yesterday onto Robert Holden. Robert Holden, New York City Council Member, spoke with Mendte in the Morning about his conversations with Adams and his stance on the Mayor pushing the blame onto him.

“The Mayor liked the idea and I think Tom Homan loved the idea,” Holden told host Larry Mendte. “I’ll take the blame because I think it’s a great idea… why would we want to have gang members roaming our streets?”

Holden believes this is a necessary decision to make our streets safer: “There’s 33,000 gangs in the U.S. do we need more? Do we need to have people that are here illegally roaming our streets committing more crimes? No.”
