As President Biden stood on a beach in Normandy on the 80th anniversary of D-Day Thursday morning and thanked members of The Greatest Generation for the sacrifices they made fighting for freedom, his son Hunter went to Wilmington, Delaware to fight for his own freedom in a courtroom on federal gun charges. The prosecution has hinted they may rest as early as Thursday afternoon, at which time it will be up to the defense to prove whether the first son knowingly lied about his drug use when he purchased a gun in October of 2018.

Jesse Weber is an anchor on the Law and Crime Network, as well as the co-host of Always in Fashion, heard Saturday and Sunday nights at 7 on WOR. He joined 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program to lay out the reasons why, unlike Donald Trump’s trial last month in Manhattan, Hunter Biden’s trial is proceeding at a brisk and much more orderly pace.

“This is actually a relatively straightforward case and an easy path for prosecutors to get a conviction here,” Weber told Berman and Riedel. “Defense attorneys in this case are really trying to focus on ... [whether] ... he knowingly [made] a false statement. Did he perceive of himself as a drug addict? It is very much a creative argument and a bit of a stretch, but generally speaking, from what I’ve seen in this case, it’s very cut-and-dried… if you’re looking straight at the facts and the law of the case, I think it’s going to be easy to prove he committed a crime here.”

As to what Hunter Biden’s end-game planning could be, Weber says he may avoid prison time, even if he gets prison time. “I think they’re building this towards yes, there’s the possibility that he could be convicted, there’s the possibility that he could be sentenced to prison, but he may get some sort of relief from his father here. But look, I think prison is definitely on the table. It’s not a definite, but it’s definitely something he has to be considering.”
