For the first time in U.S. history, a former president is standing trial on criminal charges.
Opening statements are getting underway in Lower Manhattan on Monday in the hush money trial of former President Donald Trump. He's accused of paying off porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
Trump has called the case a "witch hunt." The former president is required to be in court every day of the trial, largely taking him off the campaign trail.
Trump faces countless legal problems, but this may be the only trial he faces before the November general election.
