Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning:
The migrant crisis continues, and many are now calling for New York City to roll back its status as a sanctuary city. Mayor Adams says it’s not his place to do so, but rather that of the City Council. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis joined Len and Michael this week to discuss the ongoing problem.
Gloria Gaynor sold millions of records as a pop star in the 1970s, but none of her songs stood as tall as “I Will Survive,” the disco-era smash hit of female empowerment that still resonates as an anthem today. Yet, the song’s title would resonate for Gaynor on a different level many years later, as she bounced back from a messy divorce at age 65, reinvented herself as a gospel singer, and reclaimed her career success. A new film, “Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive,” documents how she survived life’s peaks and valleys, and she spoke with Len and Michael this week to discuss her life and career, starting with her record label’s decision to record the song that catapulted her to stardom.
Doctors and dieticians alike have touted the Mediterranean diet as one of the keys to a longer and healthier life for many years. The nutritional components of the diet promote an extensive use of fish, nuts, olive oil and fresh fruit and vegetables as a way to lower cholesterol and improve heart health. Dr. Gregory Poland of the Mayo Clinic and dietician Rachel Berman, author of the book “Mediterranean Diet for Dummies” (and Len’s daughter), joined the guys to explain why the diet is so popular and successful.
Businessman and former presidential candidate Steve Forbes joined Mark this week to discuss many of the political topics in the headlines these days, including the migrant crisis and what kind of shape our economy is actually in.
And speaking of the economy, economist Steve Moore joined Mark again this week to address a burning question: If we all can keep to a budget, why can’t the government?
This week marked the 60th anniversary of the Beatles’ arrival in the United States. Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman joined Mark to look back on this historic milestone and how the Beatles forever changed the music landscape.
