A video posted on the official Cleveland Indians Twitter shows how the team has now changed their name to the Guardians, narrating the video is actor Tom Hanks.
"The real challenge is finding a name that works that we can use," said owner Paul Dolan about how hard it was to find a name. "There aren't many words in the English language that somebody doesn't own in some shape or form. Particularly in the sports realm, that's a real challenge."
The new name and logo will be official during the 2022 season.
