Broadcasting legend Larry King has died. King passed away Saturday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles weeks after it was revealed he was battling COVID-19, though his actual cause of death hasn’t been released. He was 87.
King’s incredible career spanned six decades in television, radio, and digital media. Most notably, he hosted “Larry King Live” on CNN from 1985 through 2010. According to King's official Twitter account, funeral arrangements will be announced at a later time.
A colorful character, King was born Lawrence Harvey Zeiger in New York in 1933. He grew up in Brooklyn and got his start in broadcasting in Miami in the 50s. He changed his name to "Larry King" when his general manager suggested his birth name may be “too ethnic.” Known for his eight marriages to seven wives as well as his heralded career, King is survived by several children and grandchildren as well as his estranged wife, Shawn. The couple was embroiled in divorce proceedings at the time of his death after separating in 2019.
His awards include two Peabodys, an Emmy award and ten Cable ACE Awards..
