Back in the days of prohibition and bootlegging, Dutch Schultz had a solid reputation for strong-arming speakeasies into buying his booze…or facing horrible consequences. Ultimately, he amassed a fortune that’s said to be worth $150-million in today’s dollars. In a new documentary from PBS, “Secrets of the Dead: Gangster’s Gold,” three teams of treasure hunters are out to find the treasure’s burial site, rumored to be in upstate New York. The centerpiece of the hunt? A photograph that’s believed to hold the key to where it’s buried…or the entrance to a tunnel that leads to it. Whomever matches the pic to the correct site could land the big prize…or walk away disappointed. So far, hunters have only found two coins dated 1903 near Stoney Clove Creek, where one of the sets of hunters thinks the treasure is buried.
