Debate Commission Looking At Changes After Raucous Presidential Debate

If you were frustrated by the mess that was Tuesday night’s presidential debate, you’re not alone. If you’re demanding changes? You’re also not alone. In fact, the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates says they will be making some changes after the intense encounter between President Trump and former VP Joe Biden in Cleveland.

In a statement, the Commission says the first debate "made clear that additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues." Along the way, the Commission also credits moderator Chris Wallace for his professionalism.

There will be two more presidential debates and one vice presidential debate...so what kinds of changes will we see? While the Commission hasn’t announced them as yet, CBS News reports the new rules will include cutting off a candidate's microphone if they ignore the format.

As for how the campaigns are reacting to the news, Trump’s camp isn’t interested in “moving the goalposts and changing the rules in the middle of the game." Biden’s reps say he’s “focused on answering questions from the voters there, under whatever set of rules the Commission develop.”
