Atlanta Man Shot By Police Was Shot In The Back

An autopsy reveals that Rayshard Brooks died of two gunshot wounds to the back. That's according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office, who issued a report last night. The death has also been classified as a homicide.

In case you missed it, Brooks was killed by police after a confrontation and a scuffle in a Wendy's parking lot on Friday night in Atlanta, Georgia. The killing set off another round of protests in the city and led to the firing of one officer, another being placed on administrative leave...and the police chief stepping down.

As if that’s not enough, now lawyers for Brooks' family say the officers involved in shooting him Friday night manipulated the scene before they checked on his condition. Attorney Chris Stewart says witnesses recorded video of the officers putting on gloves and then picking up the shell casings while Brooks was dying. Stewart said it took the officers more than two minutes before they checked on him.

According to police, an officer fired as Brooks was running away after obtaining a police Taser during the scuffle. Officers say he was pointing the Taser at them and it appeared he was about to use it. Stewart said a Taser is not a lethal weapon in Georgia, something he knows well because he's lost many cases when his clients claimed police used it against them.
