SpaceX Now First Private Company To Launch Astronauts Into Space

History is made: SpaceX is now the first private company to put astronauts into space after a successful launch on Saturday. The weather cleared up in the final hours to allow Dragon to begin its trek to the International Space Station.

Soonafter? Astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley did indeed dock with the International Space Station (I-S-S). Aside from the private company aspect, the launch also marks an end of NASA having to pay Russia to send its astronauts into space. It’s been nearly a decade since a rocket took people into space from our shores.

The launch without a hitch – as did the docking and now, Behnken and Hurley will spend at least a month on the station before completing their mission by demonstrating they can return safely.
