Former NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton called the Len Berman and Michael Riedel In The Morning show to discuss this weekends protests, who are the protesters, and how to the police can deescalate these situations. "American law enforcement has come a long way not where it needs to be but is our government and nation where it needs to be when in terms of issues of race" said Britton. "The makeup of the department is almost exactly prepositionally the makeup of the population of New York City with the exception of female officers" he continued.
Len asked who are the protesters? On this topic Bill said he relies on expertise of John Miller who is the current Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence & Counterterrorism in New York. "There are many elements to this event...the lawful, the looters, and the professional agitators", said Bratton.
Later in the interview Michael has asked what he would instruct the police do to deescalate the situation "I would point out over the last five days I have not seen one interview with an officer about what they are feeling and try to put yourself in their shoes to see why some of them might snap."
