As we told you yesterday, President Trump is planning to temporarily suspend immigration into the country. Today, we know a bit more. Apparently, he’s planning to hit the pause button for 60-days – and it’ll affect those seeking green cards.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said his goal is simple: to protect jobs and block the coronavirus. "By pausing immigration, we'll help put unemployed Americans first in line for jobs as America reopens," Trump explained. "It would be wrong and unjust for Americans laid off by the virus to be replaced with new immigrant labor flown in from abroad. We must first take care of the American workers."
The promised executive order is being drafted and Trump could sign it as soon as today – it’s expected to see legal challenges.
