Police Commissioner Dermot Shea says police officers are spread out across the city to enforce social distancing guidelines.
āWe definitely are out there and weāre out there to educate and weāre out there to remind people in a New York kind of way,ā Shea told 710 WORās Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning.
Shea said that officers would break up large gatherings and get people to move along. Fines are a possibility, but only as a last resort.
āItās the last thing we want to do is further make a bad situation worse and be handing out fines,ā Shea said.
Shea said people should ādo your partā and stay off the streets.
He said NYPD officers are concerned about their own safety. He noted that Deputy Commissioner John Miller is out of the hospital and is recovering after he tested positive.
