Rapper Pop Smoke Gunned Down In Home Invasion

Rapper Pop Smoke was shot and killed in a home invasion yesterday. According to TMZ, several men in hoodies entered the Hollywood Hills home he was staying in around 4:30am, fired multiple shots and fled the scene.

When police responded to a call that came from the East Coast, they found the 20-year-old rapper, whose legal name was Bashar Barakah Jackson, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in West Hollywood where he was pronounced dead. How could this happen? Officials point to several curiosities.

For one, Pop had been posting pictures of presents and money he’d received to celebrate the seventh place debut of his mixtape, “Meet the Woo 2,” on the Billboard 200 chart. He’d also inadvertently posted a portion of the address, too. As for entry, the front door was reportedly deadbolted, but the house alarm wasn't turned on. While the motive and the suspects are unknown, the Los Angeles Police Department is investigating.

In a very strange connection, the home was an Air BNB owned by “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Teddi Mellencamp Arroyave and her husband, Edwin Arroyave. In a statement about the incident released on Instagram, Mellencamp says she learned about it from the third party leasing and management company that oversaw the rental. “We aren’t aware of any details beyond what we’ve been told or seen reported on the news and at this time we would like to refrain from commenting further," she writes, "We wish for the focus to remain on the law enforcement officers who are diligently doing their jobs. We would like to extend our prayers and condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic loss of life.”
