A British reality star has learned foreign travel etiquette the hard way.
Police on the island of Maafushi, in the Maldives, received reports of a woman dressed inappropriately and "inebriated" as she strolled in front of a mosque and a school. The officers took Cecilia Jastrzembska into custody, though she reportedly resisted and said they were sexually assaulting her.
Muslim Sharia law is the kaw of the land on the island, so it’s illegal to wear bikinis except on designated beaches. The local police commissioner later apologized and said the issue was badly handled, though he reminded tourists of cultural sensitivities and certain local regulations.
After about an hour-and-a-half, the starlet, who has appeared in shows like "First Dates" and "Ninja Warrior UK," was released.
