Bernie Madoff Claims He's Dying And Wants Early Release From Prison

Convicted Ponzi scheme mastermind Bernie Madoff says he wants mercy. His lawyers have filed a request to see the disgraced Wall Street investor released. According to court documents, Madoff has less than 18 months to live due to kidney failure and is seeking an early release from prison.

“I’m terminally ill,” Madoff tells the “Washington Post.” “There’s no cure for my type of disease. So, you know, I’ve served. I’ve served 11 years already, and, quite frankly, I’ve suffered through it.” Madoff’s request comes nearly seven months after he asked President Donald Trump to reduce his sentence by granting him executive clemency.

As you might recall, the 81-year-old is currently serving a 150-year prison sentence in North Carolina for operating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, defrauding investors of billions of dollars. And we’re not talking wealthy people losing a few bucks. We’re talking about average folks losing their life savings and retirement accounts.
