One New York resident wants alcohol to be recognized as his legal companion.
Floyd Hayes, of Brooklyn, registered a pint of beer as his emotional support animal with the USA Service Dog Registration. Hayes says he wants to see if this method will allow him to carry his drink of choice on public transit. He listed beer as a helper for his "Social Anxiety Disorder," but claims it was a light-hearted effort and an experiment. He stresses he is not an alcoholic.
An unnamed department employee doubts Hayes' request will be approved, especially since medical approval is needed for using the companion in transit or at a business.
