The House has passed a war powers resolution that aims to limit President Trump's authority to order military action against Iran. The Measure passed by a vote of 224 to 194. Massachusetts Democrat Jim McGovern said Trump's order to kill a top Iranian general in Iraq has made the world less safe. He also called Trump's foreign policy reckless.
Texas Republican Michael Burgess said the world is a safer place without General Qassem Soleimani [. The Democratic resolution is unlikely to be approved by the Republican-led Senate.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the House measure a strong statement of disapproval that should not be diminished.
Still, the timing of the vote could pose a problem for the Trump White House, as the leader of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard is now promising “harsher revenge soon.” Senior commander Abdollah Araghi, made the remarks after President Trump’s Wednesday comments that Iran appeared to be “standing down” after the missile strikes against American bases in Iraq.
