"When Andrew Lloyd Webber read the screenplay for “Cats,” he knew something was missing: a song for Victoria, an abandoned cat who wasn’t in his stage musical.
“She had no voice at all,” Lloyd Webber says of the character played by Royal Ballet dancer Francesca Hayward. “And that was dramatically hopeless.”
So Lloyd Webber, 71, decided to write Victoria a tune. When Taylor Swift, who plays Bombalurina, heard that the most successful composer in theater history was noodling around at the piano, she asked for a shot at writing the lyrics. The result is “Beautiful Ghosts,” a haunting melody matched by equally haunting lyrics."
