As we reported before, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called President Trump and “impostor” and “worse than President Nixon” over the weekend – and yesterday, he returned the favor. Before a Cabinet meeting, Mr. Trump blasted Pelosi as "grossly incompetent" and criticized her for focusing on impeachment instead of passing a trade deal with Canada and Mexico.
He also called the impeachment inquiry a "pipe dream." And while he says he’s avoided watching any of the impeachment hearing testimony previously, apparently, that’s changing, too. Aside from assailing a number of the inquiry witnesses online, Trump cheered Republicans’ behavior during the meeting saying they are "killing it." And he added he will let the public make up its own mind.
Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is calling on the House to move forward with approving the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Speaking to reporters, he said he “has heard Democrats in the House claim they can walk and chew gum at the same time,” and added now is the time to prove it.
During the presser, Senate Republicans also called for House Democrats to move forward with funding the government, pointing out eight of the 12 appropriations bills have not been approved. They also said lots of programs, such as funding for medical research, are on hold while they wait for Democrats to take action.
