House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is trying a new term – and accusation – on for size: she’s now saying President Trump committed "bribery" in the Ukraine scandal.
During a Capitol briefing, Pelosi said Trump attempted to bribe Ukraine's president by delaying planned U.S. military aid while pushing for an investigation of Democrats. Meantime, Pelosi called this week's first House impeachment hearing a "successful day for truth."
She said witnesses highlighted Trump's abuse of power – and argued that Trump “does not believe in the separation of powers.” Pelosi also defended the anonymity of the federal whistleblower who filed a formal complaint about Trump's July phone call with Ukraine's president. She called lawmakers "custodians of the Constitution" and "defenders of democracy."
