Details are still coming in, but significant damage is being reported in North Dallas after an apparent tornado – possibly an EF-2 – swept through the area last night. According to folks on the ground, there are collapsed buildings and damage to homes, as well as downed powerlines and toppled trees.
At last check, over 100-thousand people in the Dallas area are without power. The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down earlier tonight. The storms that caused the tornado have moved on.
Meantime, a number of schools in the area are closed as officials try and assess the damage.
