The intelligence community inspector general is refusing to detail a whistleblower complaint for lawmakers. Michael Atkinson has met with House Intelligence Community members about the complaint, which media reports say involved a promise President Trump made to a foreign leader – some reports say it involved Ukraine.
Atkinson's boss, the acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire, has blocked him from sharing details of the incident. That may hold off the fire for now, but Maguire is set to brief lawmakers next week – and according to the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff, it’ll be done publicly.
Schiff told reporters that the law is clear that Congress must receive whistleblower complaints within a certain period of time. Neither the foreign leader involved nor the promise made has been confirmed. For his part, Trump is calling the report "fake news."
