Last week we told you that President Trump has reportedly been tossing around the idea of buying Greenland…with "varying degrees of seriousness." Turns out, it’s not a rumor – speaking to reporters in New Jersey before making the flight back to Washington, Trump confirmed interest in making a deal.
The problem? The Danish government says Greenland is not on the market with the prime minister of Denmark calling the notion of the U.S. buying Greenland, “absurd. “While Greenland is a Danish territory,” Mette Frederiksen added. "Greenland belongs to Greenland. Greenland is not for sale. Greenland is not Danish. Greenland belongs to Greenland. I strongly hope that this is not meant seriously.”
Apparently, he is. President Trump confirms that the idea has been tossed around, but notes that it's “not a top priority” of his.
