Immigration authorities have begun conducting the anticipated raids on undocumented immigrants across the country. ICE says the operation is expected to target about 2,000 undocumented immigrants that have all been ordered by courts to be removed from the country.
The raids are said to be focusing on recent arrivals to the country. Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and San Francisco are where these raids will be focused. While New Orleans was also on the list, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it would suspend operations through the weekend in areas hit by Tropical Storm Barry.
U.S. citizens are taking precautions, including carrying their American passports at all times, to avoid being mistakenly detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
