Former Met Jerry Grote says catching for Tom Seaver was a “pleasure.”
Grote was the catcher on the 1969 Mets team, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this season. On Thursday, the Mets renamed the street outside Citi Field as 41 Seaver Way.
Grote told WOR’s “Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning” that Seaver was such an advanced pitcher.
“He was so far ahead of everyone else it was unbelievable,” Grote said.
The ’69 Mets have often been referred to as the “Miracle Mets,” but Grote said it wasn’t a miracle.
“You don’t win 100 ballgames during the season as a miracle. That means that everybody produced,” Grote said.
