The 9/11 First Responders who met with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell are calling the meeting “productive.” As we’ve been telling you, the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund is running out of money and there are still about 19-thousand people who have not been paid.
As you likely recall, comedian Jon Stewart sharply criticized lawmakers for how they were treating the people and their families who responded to the terrorist attacks on September 11th. And while the House has voted to approve more money, the Senate’s been dragging their feet.
Stewart specifically criticized McConnell saying he has always been slow to help the first responders and only after public shaming. Is that what flipped the switch? Who knows, but 9/11 First Responder John Feal calls the meeting “one of the best meetings we've had.”
