Tony Danza: Misheard Elton John Lyrics "Fun for Me"

Tony Danza says an episode of “Friends” is to blame for famous misquoted lyrics involving him and an Elton John song.

In his song “Tiny Dancer,” Elton John sings, “Hold me closer tiny dancer.”  However, many people misinterpret it as “Hold me closer Tony Danza.”

“It has been so much fun for me,” Danza told WOR’s “Len Berman in the Morning.”

He said he’s often walking down the street and people will stop him and sing the song to him.  Danza said it started during a season 3 episode of “Friends” when Lisa Kudrow’s character sings the misquoted lyrics.

The song was back in the news this week because it was reported that President Trump enjoys the song.

“When I read the thing about the president listening to it I just couldn’t help but think that’s what he’s doing,” Danza said.

Danza is a singer in his own right and often puts on shows where he performs old standards.  He is appearing at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury on Thursday, December 21st.
