Polls in New York are open until 9 p.m. today as voters cast their ballots in the gubernatorial race between Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul and Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman. Nearly two million New Yorkers have already voted early, with the final decision potentially hinging on independent voters.

Governor Hochul, who has been focusing on her challenger's support of President Trump, is making stops in Queens today. She has emphasized her commitment to lowering the cost of living and investing in public safety, as reported by ABC7NY. Hochul has defended Democratic principles against what she describes as "Trump-style" leadership.

Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, is voting with his family in Atlantic Beach. He has promised to lower taxes and energy costs if elected, and has criticized Hochul's relationship with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. "Kathy Hochul and Zohran Mamdani have a pact now, a secret pact. We know about it. To raise taxes," Blakeman said, an argument that Hochul has rejected.

Blakeman has also stated his intention to end New York's status as a sanctuary state and to deport undocumented immigrants with criminal records, according to WHAM. He argues that Republican turnout will be strongest on Election Day, despite polling showing him trailing.

In addition to the governor's race, New York voters are considering five ballot questions related to city processes, including outdoor dining and construction permitting. With early voting concluded, today is the last chance for New Yorkers to cast their votes.
