Leaf Peeper trains are making a return to the Metro-North Rail Road this weekend, providing an opportunity for New Yorkers to experience the vibrant fall foliage of the Hudson Valley. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that three additional morning trains will head towards Poughkeepsie and Beacon, while extra afternoon trains will return to the city. These services will be available through November 8.
The Hudson Valley is a popular destination for leaf peepers, with picturesque towns like Cold Spring and Beacon offering stunning views of the changing leaves. Cold Spring, located about 50 miles north of New York City, is accessible via the Metro-North Railroad Hudson Line from Grand Central Terminal. Visitors can enjoy hiking trails and the charming village atmosphere without the need for a car, as described by The WOM Travel.
Beacon, another favorite spot, offers a mix of arts, crafts, and culinary experiences. The town's mile-long Main Street is home to artisans and unique shops, as noted by Newsday. Visitors can also explore the Hudson Valley Food Hall and partake in outdoor activities like hiking in the nearby Hudson Highlands.
The MTA's additional train services coincide with schedule changes on the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven lines, which include five new weekday trains. This initiative aims to accommodate the increased number of travelers seeking to enjoy the autumn scenery.
