Back in the day several subway stations around New York City housed small newsstands that sold snacks, drinks, newspapers, and magazines. As those underground accommodations went away, the MTA is looking to reuse those spaces by adding in vending machines on select platforms around the city. Natalie Migliore, WOR Reporter, hit the streets to talk to the people of NYC about their thoughts on the changes being made by the MTA.
“I think they need to fix the train system first, they need to clean the train entirely it’s extremely unhygienic; the human feces, the urine, the stalls especially,” one person told Migliore. “Every Sunday we do not get proper train schedules, we don’t get bus schedules on time… we have real issues we need to address and getting vending machines is not a priority at all.”
Another person told Migliore that they don’t think the experiment will last long: “I think in the next couple of months, something is going to happen to them; people are going to break into them in the train station and do what they have to do.”
