Cape May County in New Jersey has launched a campaign to attract FIFA World Cup fans to its beaches this summer. The "Shore to Score" campaign uses billboards, social media, and print advertising to entice soccer enthusiasts visiting the Philadelphia and New York City regions to make a stop at the Jersey Shore. With the World Cup coinciding with the busy summer season, local businesses hope to benefit from increased tourism.
The campaign aims to capitalize on the influx of visitors expected in the area for the tournament. Cape May County's director of tourism, Diane Wieland, emphasized that visitors attending matches can easily add a Jersey Shore visit to their itinerary. "While you're into the momentum of the games, there's time to come 90 minutes away and see the beaches and all the things we have to offer," Wieland said.
Local businesses are preparing for the potential increase in visitors. At Elaine's Cape May, a boutique hotel, bar, and restaurant, owner Shirley Phinney and her team have been planning since winter. They are ready to host soccer fans with special shirts, a festive atmosphere, and plans to broadcast matches on a 20-foot inflatable screen.
The campaign also ties into Cape May County's broader efforts to boost tourism during America's 250th birthday celebration. The county is investing in marketing strategies, including geo-targeting and digital video, to attract visitors from nearby regions. According to Cape May Daily, the campaign's messaging will evolve throughout the summer to maximize visitor engagement.
Despite some reports of lower-than-expected hotel bookings in World Cup host cities, Cape May County officials remain optimistic. Wieland noted that once visitors experience the Jersey Shore, they often return. Phinney added, "We have been getting great response, and I think it's going to be huge."
