The New York State Budget Mess

The New York State Budget was due on April 1st but did not get signed off on until this past Wednesday, May 27th. The budget has come in at a whopping $268.5 billion even after some cuts to climate measures made by Governor Kathy Hochul. Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning spoke about the state’s budget and what it means for Zohran Mamdani and New York City.

“The New York State budget settled on $268 billion; [Kathy] Hochul did a big favor for her friend Zohran Mamdani by giving him $8 billion so he could balance his budget,” Sliwa told co host Mendte. “Zohran is beholden to Hochul… and nobody objected in the state legislature.”

Sliwa has a bad feeling for what may be in the future for New York based on the Democrats’ recent actions: “They keep spending more money that they don’t have, and you know this is going to lead to a fiscal collapse, but you know who they’re going to blame it on? They’re going to blame it on Donald Trump.”
