The New York Knicks face uncertainty as they prepare for the NBA Finals, with center Mitchell Robinson potentially sidelined due to a broken right pinky finger. The team announced the injury on Thursday, but did not specify how it occurred or provide a timeline for Robinson's return. The Finals are set to begin on Wednesday against either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs.
Robinson, who plays a crucial role for the Knicks, underwent surgery on his finger following the Eastern Conference Finals, but according to SportSpyder, he still plans to play in Game 1 of the Finals. However, his status remains uncertain, and the Knicks are preparing for the possibility of playing without him.
During the Eastern Conference Finals, Robinson averaged 4.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 13.3 minutes per game. His absence could be a significant blow to the Knicks' defense, especially against formidable opponents like the Thunder's Chet Holmgren or the Spurs' Victor Wembanyama. If Robinson is unable to play, head coach Mike Brown may turn to Ariel Hukporti to fill the gap.
As reported by AOL, the Knicks are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the Western Conference Finals to determine their opponent. With Game 1 just days away, the team and its fans are hopeful that Robinson will recover in time to contribute to their first Finals appearance in 27 years.
