Millions of New Yorkers are eagerly trying to secure affordable tickets for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. On Tuesday, the World Cup ticket lottery reopened for its second day, reaching its 50,000 registration limit in just 88 seconds. This was faster than Monday, when the cap was met in three minutes. The lottery offers residents a chance to purchase $50 tickets to World Cup matches.

The initiative, announced by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, aims to ensure that working-class New Yorkers can attend the games. A total of 1,000 tickets, distributed in batches of 150 across seven matches at MetLife Stadium, are available through the lottery. Matches include group-stage games and two knockout-round matches. Winners will be notified by email on June 3 and have 48 hours to purchase up to two tickets.

To prevent scalping, tickets are non-transferable and will be handed directly to winners on the day of the match. Winners will also receive free round-trip bus transportation to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Mayor Mamdani, who negotiated this deal with FIFA president Gianni Infantino, emphasized the importance of making the event accessible to all New Yorkers.

The lottery, which is open to New York City residents aged 15 or older, will continue each morning at 10 a.m. until Saturday, May 30. Residents can enter once per day, and entries are capped at 50,000 daily.
