Curtis Sliwa And Larry Mendte Comment On Anti-ICE Protests In Newark

Delaney Hall in Newark has become a focal point for anti-ICE demonstrations in New Jersey, as protestors claim detainees in the facility are being mistreated as their immigration cases await judicial review. Fox News reporter Alexis McAdams, however, found herself berated by a potty-mothed protestor as she tried covering the demonstration. Meanwhile, elected officials in the Garden State have been using Delaney Hall as a photo op to tour the situation there as they protest the presence of ICE, though in the case of Governor Mikie Sherrill- who showed up there unannounced on Memorial Day- she claimed she couldn’t get into the detention center at all.

710 WOR’s Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning addressed the situation in the Garden State. Larry drew upon his experience as a TV news reporter to describe the mess McAdams found herself in: “She got a little political, but it’s Fox News so, you know, that’s to be expected. She’s allowed to do that; she’s not going to get a talking-to, that’s for sure, about that. Yeah, I’ve been in situations like that with protestors many, many times. Some people try to take over the microphone, and the best thing to do is just pull the microphone away and walk the other way. They’ll follow you, but after a while, you have to be able to take command, and that’s what she did. That was an excellent job.”

Curtis offered his assessment on the demonstrators, saying they take their argument too far by insisting that absolutely nobody should be locked up for violating immigration laws: “What I’d like to know is, give me one or two cases that are egregious so we can make an assessment for ourselves, one or two cases, maybe, that involve a man or woman that the demonstrators claim should not be in that detention facility, you know, [they] didn’t really break any rules or regulations of immigration and naturalization. Now, unless I'm just oblivious, I really have created this blanket issue- none of them should be in there.”
