President Donald Trump is visiting Rockland Community College in Suffern, New York, today, where security measures have been heightened in preparation for his arrival. The visit is expected to be one of the most significant political events in Rockland County in decades.

President Trump will appear alongside Congressman Mike Lawler to discuss his administration's plans to enhance affordability for Americans. The event will focus on economic issues, including federal tax cuts and changes to the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction, as reported by Democrat and Chronicle. Lawler, who represents New York's 17th Congressional District, has been a vocal advocate for increasing the SALT deduction, a major issue for suburban New York taxpayers.

The visit comes as the district remains a competitive battleground ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Several Democratic candidates are preparing for a primary on June 23 to challenge Lawler in November. According to Spectrum News, the event will highlight President Trump's economic agenda, including tax cuts for the middle class and enhancements to the Child Tax Credit.

While supporters view the visit as a historic moment, some Democrats have criticized Trump's involvement in the district. Candidate Conley accused Lawler of prioritizing politics over local issues, while Davidson questioned the focus of the event on social media, as noted by CBS6 Albany.

The event is set to take place at the Eugene Levy Fieldhouse at Rockland Community College, marking the first visit by a sitting U.S. president to Rockland County in nearly 50 years.
