In Albany, New York, law enforcement is ramping up efforts to curb drunk driving as part of the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee's STOP-DWI patrols. These patrols begin today and will continue through Monday, aiming to ensure road safety during a busy travel period.

The STOP-DWI program, available in all New York counties, focuses on reducing alcohol and drug-related driving incidents. It provides educational resources, victim support, and professional training, funded entirely by fines from convicted drunk drivers, as noted by STOP-DWI New York.

Recently, the program, along with Mothers Against Drunk Driving New York, held an Annual Law Enforcement Recognition Event at the Albany Capital Center. This event honored over 130 law enforcement professionals for their dedication to DWI enforcement, including Officer Jose Fernandez from the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department, who recorded the highest number of DWI arrests in 2025, according to the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department.

Drivers are urged to plan for safe transportation if they intend to consume alcohol. Authorities encourage the public to report any suspicious or dangerous driving by calling 911.
