Could Health Issues Cost Republicans NJ Seat?

Tom Kean Jr. represents New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District but has been absent from Congress for months with an undisclosed medical issue. The Congressman began this absence without any acknowledgement and has refrained from giving any details when asked by the media. Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning spoke about the absence and how it could affect the midterm elections.

“It’s always a purple seat, its gone back and forth, this does not help Tom Keane [Jr.],” Mendte told Sliwa. “He can’t outlive his name; we’ve talked about the fact that both of us have met him, he’s a strange dude, he’s not his father… he’s just kind of weird and this plays into that weirdness.”

Sliwa believes Kean Jr’s. challenger Rebecca Bennett could be an indication for a new wave of Democratic politicians: “This has always been the Achilles heel for Democrats when you run a candidate who has no military experience right away -- the Republican, at least in the column of support for America patriotism, supporting the military has a built in advantage; but when the Democrats are able to find people who’ve served in the military… that takes away one of the arguments against them.”
