Should Trump Make Venezuela The 51st State?

Donald Trump has flirted with adding other countries to the 50 states that make up the USA since he took office in January of last year, and now Venezuela has joined that list. While the President is considering, the idea may come with opposition from both sides of the political aisle. Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning spoke about why Republicans could be opposed to adding Venezuela as the 51st state.

“I think if you were looking at it from a Republican party perspective, they would say Mr. President don’t open up the floodgates because the Democrats want DC to be a state,” Sliwa told co-host Larry Mendte. “And let's face it DC will always be a Democratic state if it becomes a state.”

Sliwa also spoke with Mendte about why Venezuela is even being discussed as a potential addition: “Everything always comes down to resources; if Venezuela didn’t have oil, which they have the largest reserves in the western hemisphere untapped, there’d be no discussion.”
