In New York City, May Day is marked by rallies and marches to advocate for workers' rights and economic justice. Mayor Mamdani is set to attend a significant rally at Washington Square Park this afternoon, followed by a march to Foley Square. The event is organized by the New York City Central Labor Council, immigration coalitions, and union and community members from across the city.

The rally, scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., is part of a global celebration of International Workers’ Day, which honors the sacrifices workers have made for safety, dignity, and justice in the workplace. District Council 37, New York City’s largest union, is one of the key participants. Members will assemble at the corner of University Place and Washington Square North at 3:30 p.m.

The New York City Central Labor Council emphasized the importance of solidarity in their fight for a better future for all workers, both locally and globally. They aim to challenge the billionaires threatening workers' rights and freedoms.

The event also features participation from Get Free NYC, which calls for bold leadership from elected officials to address historical and ongoing injustices. Their demands include taxing the wealthy, opposing ICE and private armies, and expanding democracy rather than corporate power.

As participants gather to rally and march, the organizers stress the importance of nonviolent action and lawful behavior. The event is a demonstration of unity and strength, aiming to bring about real change in New York City and beyond.
