On Sunday, over 32,000 cyclists will participate in the annual Five Boro Bike Tour in New York City. This event is renowned as the world's largest charitable bike ride, offering a unique opportunity for cyclists to traverse a 40-mile, traffic-free course across all five boroughs.
The tour begins in Lower Manhattan at 7:30 a.m., continuing through the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island, and concludes with a finish festival at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island. Organized by Bike New York, the event raises funds to support cycling education and community outreach programs throughout the city.
Motorists should prepare for significant road closures and travel restrictions, particularly in Brooklyn and along the waterfront. The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge will be fully closed to vehicles from approximately 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the Queensboro Bridge will have restricted access. City officials encourage the use of public transportation or alternate routes, as closures will last from early morning into late afternoon.
For those traveling across boroughs, the FDR Drive, Queens-Midtown Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, and Lincoln Tunnel are expected to remain open, providing essential routes during the event. Travelers are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for airport transfers and other journeys.
