The New York Knicks are poised to advance to the next round of the NBA playoffs as they face the Atlanta Hawks tonight at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The Knicks lead the series 3-2 after a commanding 126-97 victory on Tuesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with national coverage on ESPN.
Led by standout player Jalen Brunson, the Knicks have been formidable in this first-round Eastern Conference series. Brunson delivered an impressive performance in Game 5, scoring 39 points and providing eight assists. His average of 28.2 points per game in the playoffs has made him a significant challenge for the Hawks. Atlanta's coach, Quin Snyder, acknowledged Brunson's impact, stating, "I have tremendous respect for him as a player and a leader."
The Knicks' strategy has involved strong performances from Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby, who contributed significantly in the previous game. Towns recorded 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Anunoby added 17 points and 10 rebounds. Knicks coach Mike Brown praised their efforts, saying, "OG and KAT were monsters."
Despite their lead, the Knicks are aware of the challenge in securing the series win. Towns noted, "The toughest game to win is the one that ends someone's season." The Knicks aim to maintain their physical style of play, which has disrupted the Hawks' finesse approach.
For the Hawks, the focus is on returning to their strengths. Center Onyeka Okongwu emphasized the need to play their game, stating, "We're not really playing like ourselves. We have to do that on Thursday." The Hawks struggled in Game 5, with Jalen Johnson and Dyson Daniels leading the scoring with 18 and 17 points, respectively.
Tonight's game is crucial for both teams, with the Knicks looking to close out the series and the Hawks aiming to force a Game 7.
