Security is heightened in New York City today as King Charles III and Queen Camilla visit as part of their U.S. diplomatic trip. The visit comes shortly after a shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, prompting officials to reassess security measures. Matt McCool, Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office of the United States Secret Service, stated, "We're 100% confident the security plan we have in place for tomorrow is going to be effective." The plan, which has been in development for over a month, involves coordination between the Secret Service, UK law enforcement, NYPD, FDNY, and the Port Authority Police.

The royal couple's itinerary includes a visit to the 9/11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan, where they will meet with first responders and families of the victims. This visit marks the 25th anniversary of the attacks. King Charles expressed his solidarity, stating, "We stood with you then, and we stand with you now in solemn remembrance of a day that shall never be forgotten."

Following the memorial, Queen Camilla will visit the New York Public Library, where she will contribute a "Roo" doll to the library's Winnie-the-Pooh collection. Meanwhile, King Charles will visit Harlem to meet with the nonprofit Harlem Grown, which provides locally grown produce to the community. Some residents, like Ismael Sow, expressed skepticism about the visit's impact, stating, "If it's helping the community then yes, if it's not, it makes no sense to me."

The visit, marking King Charles' 20th trip to the U.S. and his first as king, aims to reinforce economic, environmental, and cultural ties. Despite recent political tensions, the monarchy maintains its apolitical stance. The royal couple's trip is part of a four-day visit celebrating 250 years of American independence. Their itinerary also includes a reception for the King’s Trust and meetings with business leaders in Manhattan.
