Elise Stefanik’s political career seemed on the path to the moon when she was considered for multiple positions in Donald Trump’s cabinet, and the leading candidate for Republican nominee for Governor of New York, but she will now be stepping away from Congress. All of the potential upward moves she had available were taken away and now her decision to leave Congress could cause an issue for Republicans not only in New York but also across the country. Rob Astorino, WOR and NewsMax host, spoke with Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning about the race for Stefanik’s soon to be empty seat and how Trump’s endorsement could affect the race.
“This whole race is screwed up now unfortunately, and I think the race is in play,” Astorino told hosts Sliwa and Mendte. “The entire country could be based on this one district that we should have had in our back pocket.”
Astorino explained the disfunction that is happening in regards to the seat: “Since she has announced she is not running, it’s just been screwed up; you have the fifteen county chairs who can’t get their act together and all come with one voice on one candidate, then you have a split between the Conservative party and the Republican party.”
