If you’ve been in or around New York City for enough time you are familiar with SantaCon, the annual event in which thousands of people dress up in Christmas attire and participate in a city wide bar crawl to raise money for charity. The event generally causes irritation for New Yorkers as it fills the streets and transportation systems with drunken people all day, but now the positive aspect of the day is under question as its organizer has been arrested for stealing the money that was meant for charity. Natalie Migliore, WOR Reporter, hit the streets of NYC to talk to people about if they were even aware that it was supposed to be a charitable event.

“You don’t ever see anything about it other than people in costumes,” one person told Migliore. “I didn’t even know they were raising money, I thought it was just a drunk thing… I feel like everyone in the city knows that it’s not the vibe, so I’m not surprised that he’s stealing money,” another person told Migliore.

One person told Migliore that it might be better to end the event now: “If it’s not even serving its intended purpose, it’s not necessary, nobody likes it anyway; it’s just a reason for people to come here and dress up and be crazy so maybe it’s time to call it quits.”
