One of the hottest new trends in the tech industry is smart glasses, which allow people to record video and sound by just wearing a pair of regular looking glasses. The trend has led to many cool new videos and perspectives on actions that may not be possible for some people, but it has also led to the glasses being used for the wrong reasons such as recording people without their knowledge in vulnerable or embarrassing situations. Rich DeMuro, host of ‘Rich on Tech’ on WOR Sunday nights, spoke with Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning about the glasses.
“There are people that are not using them for nefarious reasons,” DeMuro told hosts Sliwa and Mendte. “But there are some people that are using these glasses to secretly film people in public, especially women, and then posting these clips to TikTok and Instagram to go viral.”
DeMuro told Sliwa and Mendte that he needs to do some research on the full extent of the secret recordings: “People can use these without other folks knowing because they cover up the little light that’s on the lens that lets you know the camera is recording… the glasses are supposed to stop recording [when you cover the light] but I need to test that.”
